Pirelli has launched SmarTUBE RS, a new high-efficiency TPU inner tube that claims to set a new benchmark in performance for tube-type road cycling setups.
Developed using a proprietary thermoplastic formulation, the SmarTUBE RS offers a 12% claimed improvement in rolling efficiency compared to Pirelli’s standard TPU model. The new tube is 32% thicker than existing options in Pirelli’s range while remaining lightweight – just 32g for the 26/35-622 version with a 42mm Presta valve.
When paired with the P ZERO Race RS clincher tyre, Pirelli states this new combination represents its fastest and most efficient tube-type setup. In internal testing, it performed close to a tubeless configuration with sealant, but without the installation complexity. Compared to a classic butyl inner tube, the claimed performance gains extend to +24%.
The SmarTUBE RS has already been adopted by Pirelli partner teams including Alpecin-Deceuninck and Lidl-Trek, particularly in mountain time trials where low weight and high rolling efficiency are key.
The tube is available in one size (26/35-622) with 42mm, 60mm, and 80mm Presta valves, covering tyre widths from 26 to 35mm – aligned with current trends toward wider rims and tyres.
