San Antonio Sports has partnered with event tech specialist Laurel Innovations to deliver an ‘innovative and interactive race experience’ at the inaugural San Antonio Marathon, Half Marathon and 5K taking place in Texas on December 5–7, 2025.

The marathon immediately follows The Running Event (TRE), the run conference and expo, held in San Antonio on December 2-4, 2025.

With more than 18,000 participants expected across all distances, the San Antonio Marathon aims to be a premier destination marathon in the United States. As part of the partnership, Laurel will deploy checkpoints as frequently as every half mile or more to provide real-time performance updates and timing for runners and spectators throughout race day.

Laurel will also build and launch the new San Antonio Marathon mobile app. This will feature:

  • Motivational messages delivered from family and friends directly to runners during the race
  • A course tour showcasing San Antonio and highlighting cultural and historic points of interest
  • Interactive maps of the course, expo and event venues
  • Safety features for race directors, including a live command centre dashboard to track the back of the pack, monitor non-moving athletes and enhance emergency response capabilities.

“Our goal is to make every runner feel supported from the starting line to the finish line,” said Jenny Carnes, CEO of San Antonio Sports.

“With Laurel’s real-time tracking and motivational messaging, participants will enjoy a race experience unlike anything they’ve had before. The partnership ensures the San Antonio Marathon is as exciting and personal as it is challenging.”

Phil Dumontet, CEO of Laurel Innovations, said “We are proud to partner with San Antonio Sports to bring the future of racing technology to one of America’s premier marathons.

“From timing checkpoints every half mile to never-before-seen app features like live motivational messages and enhanced safety tools, this is more than a marathon – it’s a fully connected race experience.”
