Following a hiatus for major triathlon events in Manhattan, event organiser Alpha Win is pushing registration for the inaugural Big Apple Triathlon. Scheduled for October 10, 2026, according to Alpha Win, the event aims to fill a gap in the New York City endurance calendar by returning racing to the streets of the West Side.
The event features two primary distances – Sprint and Olympic – alongside Aquabike and relay options. The organisers note that they have capped the capacity at 1,250 athletes for each distance, totalling 2,500 participants. The race starts with a 1,500m swim in the Hudson River, followed by a bike leg on the West Side Highway and a run that finishes in Central Park.
Alpha Win, a triathlon and running event operator based in Saugerties, NY, has produced more than 150 events since its inception in 2011. The company is positioning the Big Apple Triathlon as its marquee 2026 fixture, moving the traditional NYC racing window from the peak summer heat to a cooler October date.
Tommy Struzzieri, Owner, CEO and Race Director at Alpha Win, said “We designed the Big Apple Triathlon to deliver an exceptional race experience for athletes of all levels. With limited capacity and tiered registration, we encourage athletes to register early.”
Registration is being managed through a tiered pricing structure. Round 1 covers the first 500 entries per distance, followed by Round 2 for the next 500, and a final Round 3 for the remaining 250 spots. Alpha Win adds that it expects a rapid sell–out given expected high demand for a Manhattan-based triathlon.
- Sprint Distance: US$349 (Round1), US$375 (Round 2), and US$399 (Round 3)
- Olympic Distance: US$499 (Round1), US$533 (Round 2), and US$569 (Round 3)
Relay team entries start at US$432 for the Sprint and US$618 for the Olympic distance, while Aquabike entries are priced from US$275. Discounts are available for military, students, and first responders.
The course logistics include a swim off the banks of the Hudson River and a run through Central Park. The event is sanctioned by USA Triathlon (USAT) and includes specific provisions for para-athletes and triathlon clubs. A beginner’s guide has also been made available for those new to the sport.
Alpha Win operates under the motto ‘A Distance for Everyone’, focusing on producing events in desirable destinations that cater to various training levels. The company notes that it aims to combine the scale of a national event producer with the personalised service of a local organiser.
