No ball games, as Fenway Park Marathon returns to Boston this May

Fenway Park Marathon returns to Boston

The Fenway Park Marathon is set to return to Boston, MA, on May 30, 2026. The event offers participants the opportunity to complete a full marathon distance entirely on the track inside the historic ballpark, home of the Boston Red Sox, while raising funds for two non-profit organisations.

The race benefits the Red Sox Foundation and the Dave McGillivray Finish Strong Foundation. Originally launched in 2017, the event is noted for its unique setting, where runners circle the track for 26.2 miles surrounded by the backdrop of the stadium.

Registration is now open for the 2026 edition, with the field limited to 100 individuals. For the 2026 return, the organising team has introduced two new categories: a half marathon distance and a relay team division for teams of two to five runners.

To participate, all individual runners and relay teams are required to raise a minimum of US$5,000 for the partner non-profit organisations.

Dave McGillivray, Senior Race Advisor for the Boston Marathon and founder of the Finish Strong Foundation, said “Running a marathon inside Fenway Park is an experience unlike anything else in the sport.

“Participants will spend the entire race on the warning track of one of the most beloved ballparks in the world, surrounded by family, friends, and fellow runners. It’s a celebration of endurance, community, and the power of giving back.”

The Red Sox Foundation is the official team charity of the Boston Red Sox. Since its creation in 2002, it has focused on health, education, and recreational opportunities for children, families, and veterans. The foundation has helped raise over US$190 million for cancer research via The Jimmy Fund and supports the Home Base Program for veterans.

The Dave McGillivray Finish Strong Foundation aims to inspire youth through physical activity, literacy, and community involvement. It has operated for over 18 years with a focus on building self-esteem in young people across the New England region.

Bekah Salwasser, Executive Vice President of Social Impact at the Boston Red Sox and Red Sox Foundation Executive Director, said “We are so excited for the return of the Fenway Park Marathon.

“This fundraiser not only gives participants access to a unique race setting in the iconic Fenway Park, but it will also generate critical funds for the Red Sox Foundation and the Dave McGillivray Finish Strong Foundation.”

Spectators can attend the event for free, providing an environment where supporters can view runners throughout the entire duration of the race. Given the limited field of 100 participants, organisers expect spots to fill quickly. Registration and further details can be found on the event website.
