The great and the good of elite triathlon continue to tie-up with new and rapidly evolving triathlon series, TriStar. Following TriStar’s tie-up with Estonian tri legend Ain-Alar Juhanson in the formation of TriStar111 Estonia, world class triathlete Chris McCormack is now also on board.
Chris ‘Macca’ McCormack is partnering with TriStar format owner Star Production. Macca will participate in many of the upcoming TriStar events that are ‘focused on fun, environmental protection and social responsibility.’
Besides taking on his well known role of professional triathlete, McCormack also becomes a long-term TriStar ambassador, a member of the TriStar technical board, the advisory board and will help implement the TriStar Series on his native continent Australia.
“TriStar are pushing the endurance barriers and setting new unique challenges that are interesting and tough. I have committed to TriStar because they continue to present spectacular events that are designed with the athlete in mind. TriStar approach race organisation in the same way I approach my racing and it is because of this I feel sound in my decision to work with them," said McCormack.
A multiple world champion at various distances, McCormack is a big draw for TriStar – owning both of the biggest prizes in the sport of triathlon, an ITU World Championship and an Ironman World Championship title.
His long-term commitment (5+ years) to TriStar is likely to bolster the new tri format considerably. As an ambassador and technical advisor he will likely expand his influence with age group triathletes of all shapes and sizes, in a number of countries, not least his Australian homeland.
On 6 June the Australian will be racing TriStar111 Germany in Worms. “I love racing in Germany. It is a country that has been very kind to me in my career and I have won many of my biggest events in Germany. Competing in Lothar’s event in Worms will be lots of fun. Lothar is an athlete I raced extensively over the years and to support his race is something I am excited about doing.”
Together with great athletes – such as Lothar Leder, Peter Reid and Vladimir Salnikov – and the Star Production team, McCormack will develop the TriStar Series strategically and technically. As member of the technical and advisory board of Star Production, these athletes will help to define global race standards and the global event strategies.
Macca will also be racing TriStar111 Estonia on 7 August, TriStar111 Monaco on 5 September and an additional TriStar race that will be announced soon. “I think good support from some key endurance racers from many different sports such as cycling and triathlon adds speed to the pointy end of the racing field and gives the racing amateurs a point of reference to build towards in the future,” McCormack added.
One of the first TriStar events to be set up outside of Europe will be taking place in Australasia. Although dates are yet to be determined, McCormack will head up the development of the TriStar brand across this evolving region.
He will look at setting events up in his home country of Australia and into Asia. While the dates for races down under are not yet fixed, the TriStar organisers are confident that Macca will implement TriStar races on the fifth continent in the future.
“The boom in mass participation endurance events globally stems from the very fact that people are looking for a physical challenge that will test them, in a fun environment,” McCormack concluded.
