The former high performance manager of Bike New Zealand (BikeNZ), Michael Flynn, has been appointed to run Triathlon Australia’s high performance programme. The Hawaiian Ironman age-group finisher will take up the new role of National High Performance Director.
Flynn’s most recent role in Australian sport was high performance manager for Cycling Australia where he left after the Athens Olympics to take up a similar role with BikeNZ. Flynn then joined cycling’s world governing body, the UCI, as manager of its training and development department.
Flynn’s new role is effectively a combination of Triathlon Australia National Performance Manager, previously held by Bill Davoren, and Andrew Logan’s post at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) as Performance Manager for the sport. Davoren and Logan resigned after Emma Snowsill won Australian triathlon’s first Olympic gold medal in Beijing.
"Michael will bring a wealth of knowledge and new concepts to the AIS/National Triathlon programme," said AIS Director, Professor Peter Fricker. "The new position of a National High Performance Director takes Australian triathlon into a new era. It will enable better integration and coordination of resources under unified leadership.”
