Unveiled at Kona, SRAM’s 1090 R2C bar-end aero shift levers enable quick gear shifts, with the shift lever immediately and automatically returning to the starting ‘centre’. By returning to centre, the lever is thus pointed ahead where it generates less drag but also remains easily accessible to the rider regardless of gear selection.
SRAM’s new 1090 R2C (Return to Centre) bar-end shift levers represents the company’s third aero lever introduction in less than three years. The design was shaped for a complete range of hand sizes and is set to fit between the thumb and first finger.
Every detail has been refined to be as small, aero and functional as possible. According to initial wind tunnel tests the company claims that the 1090 R2C shifters can save an average of 10-15gms of drag at 30mph, when compared to other shifters in the 53/14. This potentially ranges between 10 to 36 seconds over an Ironman bike leg.
The shift lever is carbon with an aluminium body, titanium bolts, and a composite insert mount. Projected weight is 195g with retail pricing and availability to be confirmed.
