TriStar Salzkammergut takes international focus

Further details have been released on TriStar Salzkammergut – one of the new additions to the TriStar series for 2012. 3 June 2012 sees Salzkammergut and the Attersee in Austria host the inaugural edition of the TriStar Salzkammergut. According to TriStar, the event will have an international reach, with TriStar Salzkammergut focused on fun and presenting a great vacation tie-up.

TriStar Salzkammergut presents an opportunity for triathletes across Europe to get back to nature in one of the most interesting natural areas in Austria. On 3 June, with the TriStar111 and TriStar55.5 formats in the idyllic region of Atter Lake in Upper Austria, Salzkammergut will be the host of another triathlon event ‘focused on fun, social responsibility and environmental protection.’

Back to nature
According to TriStar, ‘back to nature’ would be the best motto to describe a destination like Salzkammergut, offering local and international athletes a scenic setting for an exciting and fun race.

The TriStar111 race starts with swimming in the crystal-clear waters of Atter Lake, followed by the bike leg, accomplished in 2 laps each of 50K. Drafting will be not allowed. The athletes will first do a tour around the scenic Atter Lake and then will ride towards another picturesque site, the Mond Lake.

The run course, set in the hinterland of Atter Lake will be done in 2 laps of 5K each. The TriStar55.5 Salzkammergut event (500m swim, 50K bike and 5K run) is the shorter distance offered to athletes. In both races the athletes will be rewarded with some spectacular views of the Atter Lake.

According to the race organisers, another advantage of TriStar Salzkammergut is Atter Lake’s proximity to cities such as Salzburg or Linz, which ‘makes it even more a perfect destination for a family weekend or a vacation.’

The event’s location in the north of Austria (Upper Austria) also makes it an ideal race for German triathletes, who in 2012 will have the option to choose other races such as TriStar Worms-Germany and TriStar Berlin.

The Economic and Tourism official of Upper Austria, Viktor Sigl commented that “as evidenced by the numerous state championship titles, Upper Austria, with its successful athletes inside the red-white-country is the number one Federal State. Moreover, when it comes to hosting major international sporting events we are certainly reliable partner. Numerous World and European Championships were organized such as: hand ball, mountain biking, horse riding and sailing. The TriStar Salzkammergut Upper Austria is an excellent opportunity to present [the region] internationally as host.”

Former pro cyclist, Paco Wrolich, a Director of Star Events Central Europe, added, “No doubt, this is maybe the most picturesque bike leg of all Austrian triathlons. Doing a tour around the scenic Atter Lake is a perfect start. It will be easy to find the right rhythm on this rolling section. Having the lake always on your left hand gives you additional motivation.

“The second part of the course is tougher but very nice too. You will pass another very beautiful lake of the Salzkammergut, the Mond Lake. The hilly sections boost especially the good cyclists. Technically it is not a very hard course but I am sure that everybody will enjoy this beautiful ride.”

TriStar111 Salzkammergut is organized by Star Production SARL with the collaboration and support of ASC-Attersee triathlon club, the Austrian and the regional triathlon federation, with the sponsorship of Atterse – Salzkammergut tourism office and Sportland OÖ.

According to TriStar, its races offer an easy-to-understand format, do not require a sign-up a year ahead of the race, and last but not least allow for more fun and faster recovery periods than other races thanks to the relatively short swim and run distances.
