Rio de Janeiro, home of the 2016 Olympic Games and the FIFA World Cup in 2014, will now host TriStar111 and TriStar55.5 competitions on 14 October 2012.
Rio de Janeiro will stage the inaugural edition of the TriStar format in Brazil, and joins the international series held across 15 different destinations in the world. TriStar has now reached as far afield as Monaco, France, the US, Spain, UK, Germany, Austria, Estonia, the Caribbean and Croatia. As the TriStar team points out, ‘triathlon is rapidly growing and Star Events is offering something unique to the athletes worldwide in the best destinations.’
TriStar Rio de Janeiro (a full weekend of sports and activities) is organized by Star Events South America, and is the result of a partnership between two agencies, ONE International Sport Business and Star Events. Event registration will opened shortly.
The race course will be a real city triathlon affair with a start from the beach in the bay of Guanabara. The stunning bike course will be on fully closed roads through the heart of the city. This leads athletes along some of the most scenic spots in Rio, with a mix of beautiful views across the sea, historic architecture and the modernity of the city.
The run will be held on a 5K loop along the sea front. Rio will host a TriStar111 and a TriStar55.5, ideal for beginners and experienced triathletes who want to feel the new spirit of this well-known, fun format that offers an easy recovery for athletes.
The TriStar111 Rio de Janeiro (1K swim, 100K bike and 10K run) is the premiere of this international triathlon series in South America and will offer a unique chance to enjoy one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
Meanwhile, TriStar55.5 is an ‘easy’ triathlon format thanks to its shorter distances: 500m swimming, 50K cycling and 5K running. TriStar’s fun-focused format is accessible to both individuals and relay teams of 2 or 3.

TriStar has introduced new distances to the sport of triathlon (i.e, 111K and 222K), is officially recognized by ITU, and has also introduced a brand new Team Racing Concept T5.
