The President of the European Triathlon Union, Mr Renato Bertrandi, officially announced, at a press conference at last weekend’s Challenge Roth, that the next European Championship 2013 ETU Long Distance Triathlon will take place at Challenge Vichy on 18 August 2013. Meanwhile, the ETU European Half Distance Championships were awarded to Challenge Barcelona, with confirmation of 2013 dates to follow soon.
This latest announcement continues the working alliance between the European Triathlon Union (ETU) and the Challenge Family race operation, which owns and manages Challenge Vichy, Challenge Roth and a number of other middle and long distance triathlon races worldwide.
With over 3,000 participants, Challenge Kraichgau, which took place on Sunday 10 June 2012, is Europe’s largest half iron distance event and hosted the 2012 Kraichgau ETU Challenge Half Distance Triathlon European Championships for Elite and Age Group athletes over the 1.9K/90K/21K distance.
The 2012 event followed the partnership, confirmed earlier this year, between the Challenge Family and the European Triathlon Union (ETU). The agreement between the Challenge series race organizer and Europe’s governing body for triathlon saw Challenge Kraichgau and Challenge Roth both host Long Distance Triathlon Continental Championships in 2012.

“This proves from the beginning we set the bar very high in terms of quality organization with the city of Vichy, all other communities and our valued volunteers. In August, we will show European triathletes that we are part of the biggest races in global organization and the European Championships will be an event not to miss in 2013.”
Mainard added, “If some are still hesitant about 2013, they can still enter Challenge Vichy or the Vichy Half Triathlon in August 2012 as a test run for the European Championships next year.”
