Granfondo Campagnolo Roma

Italian groupset specialist Campagnolo has celebrated an exciting first edition of the Granfondo Campagnolo Roma.

The city of Rome, its people, thousands of cycling enthusiasts, a strong and shared passion were, under a bright sun and mild temperatures, the main ingredients of a special and historic day on Sunday 14 October.

By the numbers, there were… 5500 cyclists, including both amateurs and pros, under the shadow of the Coliseum, 20 countries represented, and thousands of spectators across the entire length of the Granfondo.

To make such an event even more special, there were famous names from the world of cycling including: Alex Zanardi, Fabrizio Macchi, the coach of Italian Cycling National team Paolo Bettini, Miguel Indurain, Antonio Rossi, Juri Chechi, Matteo Marzotto and the major of Roma Gianni Alemanno.

Granfondo Campagnolo Roma was not only a racing event. Inside the Terme di Caracalla stadium, Campagnolo set up an expo area in order to welcome fans and guests. This was a place specially designed to meet people, where the company aimed to share its passion and let consumers learn more about new Campagnolo products.

4 bikes were equipped with new Campagnolo electronic transmission and were ready for testing. Cycling enthusiasts lined up to check the performances of Campagnolo Super Record EPS, Record EPS, Athena EPS and Time Trial/TRI EPS.

Campagnolo noted the success of the event, with such a large number of participants at an Italian Granfondo at its first edition. The company continued, ‘Such a result has been a surprise not by itself but because it happened with basically no active promotion.’

Campagnolo’s release on the event concluded: ‘Once realized the upscale level of the event organization and how fantastic has been the experience of every rider, we are ready to push the promotion of the event for the next edition, targeting especially our foreign fans. Our partnership with Granfondo New York will help to run a combined promotion.’
