Kufstein to host the second TriStar in Austria

Kufstein, a city in Tyrol, Austria, is the latest destination added to the expanding TriStar race calendar for 2012. According to the race organisers Star Events, TriStar Kufstein will ‘offer a unique set up involving the entire area of the tourism region.’

The inaugural TriStar Kufstein will be held on 15 July 2012, featuring the successful formats TriStar111 and TriStar55.5. Located right on the border with Germany in the east of Tyrol, known as one of the most popular tourism regions in Austria, Kufstein appears to be a perfect destination to host an international triathlon.

A picturesque landscape for cycling, and with an ideal infrastructure for a triathlon race in the city of Kufstein itself, plus a well-developed triathlon scene in the region – all make TriStar Kufstein a perfect complementation to the recently announced triathlon race in Salzkammergut earlier in the season. The local, national and international triathlon community gets two new fun options for their triathlon experience.

The TriStar111 Kufstein (1K swimming, 100K cycling and 10K running), plus half distances for TriStar55.5) is positioned as a new fun challenge for professional and age group triathletes ‘in a truly natural paradise for tourism in one of the most popular regions in Austria: Tyrol.’

The swimming leg will take place in the Hechtsee, a scenic swimming lake in the middle of the mountains. The stunning 100K of cycling offers a varied bike leg with a demanding climb to Thiersee and some fast flat sections, always in the heart of a the highland scenery of the valley of Kufstein. The athletes will pass Kufstein city centre several times – with the TriStar111 participants doing two loops and the 55.5 athletes one – before reaching the second transition in the Kufstein Arena.

The run leg will lead the athletes in loops on the city promenade along the river of Inn with a spectacular finish in the heart of the city at the ‘Unterer Stadtplatz’ just at the foot of the famous fortress of Kufstein. An attractive set up for the spectators is guaranteed, watching the cyclists passing the city centre and also several times during the run leg before coming to the finish line. And all this includes a sports expo and the second transition within a few steps reach.

Star Events is organizing TriStar Kufstein with the strong support of ‘Ferienland Kufstein’ and its communities, as well as the City of Kufstein. The region of Kufstein is located in the heart of a triangle of the cities of Innsbruck, Salzburg and Munich and this easy-to-reach location makes it an ideal place for an event that is featuring a weekend of fun and sportive events.

Next to the TriStar events on Sunday in which athletes can participate individually or in a relay team, the weekend will offer a kids aquathlon the day before and a charity run in the city of Kufstein on Friday.

“Between sporting experience, breathtaking scenery and historic atmosphere, the holiday region Kufstein offers in every way ideal conditions for a triathlon race. We look forward to welcoming the TriStar event in July and we are sure that it will be a raving success,” said Karin Scholz, Managing Director of Ferienland Kufstein.

“We see this event as an integral part of our events calendar for the future,” she added. “This endurance sport has in the past few years shown a continuous significant growth and we are confident that this event will not only be a highlight for the local community but also attract lots of foreign triathletes. We wish the organizers to achieve sustained success!”

“I am very excited that Star Events is launching a TriStar in Kufstein,” added Peter ‘Paco’ Wrolich, CEO of Star Events Central Europe. “The lake Hechtsee, the picturesque mountains and the lovely city of Kufstein will present a perfect scenery especially to our German neighbours. This will be a first class triathlon!”
