In recent months, online multisport retailer Wiggle ‘has been on an incredible journey since the launch of the Wiggle Athlete Search 2012 at the beginning of this year. For one month, over 1500 athletes nominated themselves to become a member of Team Wiggle.’
As Wiggle points out in its latest release about the final stages of the athlete search…
We’d like to take this opportunity to express our thanks once more to those of you who took the time out to enter our competition. We were genuinely amazed at the amount of quality applications we received from around the world and from such diverse sports disciplines. It has been immensely enjoyable reading about your achievements to date and what motivates you. But this represented a challenge! How on earth were we meant to choose from such a varied, inspirational and downright vivacious group of people?!
After weeks of analysing every single entry in great detail, we have finally reached a decision on who we will be welcoming into Team Wiggle for 2012:
- Victor Manuel Gomez, Spain, Triathlon (Ironman)
- Hefin Price, UK, Road (Road Racing)
- James Lewis, UK, Road (Road Racing)
- Laura Siddall, Australia, Triathlon (ITU Olympic)
Victor Manuel Gomez, said “When the Wiggle team contacted me to tell me that I was selected to be part of the team, I did not believe it at first… [It] has given me a boost of motivation to keep training and competing. Thanks for the opportunity.”
Hefin Price added, “This was a great surprise to me. Because of the amount of entries that were registered, I never expected it. I’d just like to thank the guys at Wiggle for giving me this opportunity and thank everyone that voted.”
James ‘Tank’ Lewis said “Well, when I heard the news I was over the moon. Delighted. It’s not every day you get an opportunity like this. Hopefully it will work well and [we will] be a successful team together.”
Laura Siddall concluded, “Obviously I was thrilled, stunned and honoured to hear that I’d been selected. I had to read the email several times to make it sink in. It’s such a fantastic opportunity and I’m thrilled to join the team. It’s a real privilege.”
Wiggle continued in its release stating…
For the athletes that didn’t make the final cut… Firstly, your entries were brilliant. Thank you so, so much for your time and efforts in entering. We hope that compiling your submissions gave you a chance to reflect over your accomplishments so far and really acknowledge the fact that each and every one of you has something to offer the sporting world. Secondly, 2012 is still yours for the taking. So get out there to train, enjoy your sport and succeed and please keep us up to date via www.facebook.com/wiggle. We still want to know how you’re all getting on!
