Trek confirms sponsor deal with US cyclocross powerhouse Katie Compton

Trek Bicycle has signed its first professional cyclocross athlete by reaching a partnership agreement with American cross phenomenon Katie Compton. With 12 World Cup wins, eight US National Championships and three World Championship medals, Compton brings unparalleled knowledge and experience to a new racing program aimed at growing Trek’s presence in the world of cyclocross.

The US’ most successful cyclo-cross athlete, and a firm fan-favourite, Compton will enter her 2012 racing campaign with the full backing of Trek’s dedicated Race Department. Compton will compete aboard the Trek Cronus and Ion cyclo-cross bikes along with a range of Bontrager components and apparel.

“To hit my goals, Trek is the best opportunity,” said Compton. “From the incredible race support, to the bicycle technology, it’s what I’ve wanted. And it just felt like a good fit from the start. Trek is looking to make some big waves in the sport of cross and I’m excited to be helping.”

The partnership is also a return to Compton’s roots, as she won her first cyclo-cross national championship aboard a Trek in 1997 racing for Trek’s East Coast Regional Mountain Bike Team. The relationship eventually introduced her to cyclo-cross, the sport she has dominated in the US for the last decade.

“We’re really happy to welcome Katie back to the Trek family,” said Michael Mayer, Trek Road Brand Manager. “In addition to having such a great athlete ride Trek, the feedback she’ll be able to give us is going to be invaluable in further developing ‘cross technology.”
