Bolton, UK, based sports apparel specialist VO2 Sportswear has designed a special limited edition cycling jersey, which is to be worn during The One Show’s Rickshaw Challenge, as it raises funds for the major UK charity initiative Children In Need.
Managing Director of VO2 Sportswear Matt Tomkin said “It is a great honour for us to have this jersey affiliated with a charity that does so much fantastic work across the country.
“Children In Need supports Bolton Lads and Girls Club, a local youth centre that we are particularly passionate about, so we are proud to be able to promote such a good cause whilst also encouraging fitness.”
The Rickshaw Challenge will be undertaken by The One Show presenters Matt Baker and Alex Jones, along with five young volunteers, each of whom have been supported by projects funded by Children In Need. Four of the volunteers will be partnered by a parent as they take on the huge 700 mile challenge that begins in Northern Ireland on 8 November 2013 before passing through Scotland, England and Wales.
The journey will conclude at BBC Elstree live on the Children In Need Appeal Show on Friday 15 November.
The One Show presenter Alex Jones said “This is going to be one of the toughest things I’ve ever done, and we will all have our work cut out for us. Cycling through the night will probably be the hardest part. Having supported the Rickshaw Challenge before, I know first-hand what a difference the public support can make, so please, please donate.”
Alex’s co-presenter Matt Baker added “Thanks in advance for your support, here’s to raising a fortune!”
VO2 Sportswear’s Matt Tomkin is no stranger to testing physical challenges having been a part of the Atlantic Challenge rowing team. He said “It will be no mean feat for the cyclists, which is why I want to show support for them as well as this fantastic charity by raising £15,000 from the sales of the Children In Need Cycling Jersey.”
The jersey, made from VO2’s exclusive moisture management fabric, was based on the Tour De France’s famous ‘King of the Mountain’ jersey and can be purchased for £44.99 via www.vo2sportswear.com – with £15 being donated to Children In Need from every sale.
The jersey is available for men, women and children in a range of sizes.
The One Show’s Rickshaw Challenge has raised in excess of £3.5 million for the charity to date. The team’s schedule in 2013 will be as follows:
