Lightweight Wheels rolls with Lucy Gossage in 2013

Carbonsports GmbH has announced a partnership with pro triathlete (and cancer doctor) Lucy Gossage that will see her ride Lightweight Wheels in 2013.

“I’m seriously excited about being asked to ride what are undoubtedly the best wheels out there,” said Gossage. “It will be a privilege to ride them and I can’t wait to test them in their first race outing.”

Chris Hewings, Sales Manager for Lightweight Wheels in the UK & Ireland, said “Lucy is a superb, world-class triathlete who had an amazing run of results in 2012, and we look forward to helping her improve on this in 2013, as she’ll now be riding the most technologically advanced wheels in the world.”

Lucy Gossage (aka the Goss) is a cancer doctor and triathlete based in Cambridge, UK. She started triathlon as a novice in 2006 and has been racing as a professional triathlete since 2011. She juggles a demanding training and racing schedule with work as a clinical research fellow at the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Research Institute, with her main research focused around kidney cancer.

A sensational 2012 season saw Lucy win the British & European Duathlon Championships, a silver medal at the Duathlon World Championships at the famous Powerman Zofingen and taking her first long distance tri title winning Challenge Barcelona in October. Not only did she smash the previous year’s time by over 15 minutes, it was her sub 9 hour finish time (8.58) that has cemented her position as one of the fastest long distance triathletes in the world.

2013 looks set to be another great year with Lucy setting her focus on some early season duathlons and IM 70.3 events, with the long term goal of qualifying for Kona 2014.

Lucy will be using the following wheels from Lightweight…

  • Training: Lightweight Meilenstein Clinchers
  • Racing: Lightweight Autobahn disc and Autobahn front wheel

Lightweight produces some of the most exclusive racing bike wheels in the world. The German brand focuses on delivering ‘full carbon speed machines that are the lightest race wheels on the market.’

In October 2003, Lightweight started to trade under the name CarbonSports, and has since then worked closely with its own carbon specialists in Friedrichshafen, Germany, (also the home of the Eurobike trade show), to develop and produce its bicycle wheels.
