Onex completes US$950m purchase of Interbike owner Nielsen Expositions

Onex Corp has completed the acquisition of Nielsen Expositions – the company behind leading North American trade show Interbike. The US$950 million in cash consideration sees Onex take on Nielsen Expositions’ portfolio of large, business-to-business tradeshows in the US.

In tandem with the closing of the deal, the company was renamed Emerald Expositions Inc.

David Loechner, Chief Executive Officer of Emerald Expositions, said “[The] Onex acquisition of our business has given us a partner that will help Emerald pursue new growth opportunities while continuing to deliver exceptional value to our exhibitors and attendees.”

Kosty Gilis, a Managing Director at Onex added “We’re excited to work with David and his management team to grow the company through both continued expansion of its existing shows and add-on acquisition opportunities.”

Jewel in the crown
Now under the Onex umbrella, via the newly renamed Emerald Expositions, Interbike and Emerald’s other endurance & outdoor properties look to be on an even stronger footing. In addition to Interbike, Emerald’s portfolio includes: the summer and winter Outdoor Retailer shows and leading trade journal Bicycle Retailer & Industry News (BRAIN), which is operated independently under licence by a division of the National Bicycle Dealers Association (NBDA).

Emerald Expositions is headquartered in San Juan Capistrano, California. It is a leading operator of large business-to-business tradeshows in the United States, producing over 65 tradeshows and conference events per year connecting over 335,000 buyers and sellers across nine diversified end-markets, including general merchandise, sports, hospitality and retail design, jewelry, photography, decorated apparel, building, healthcare and military.
