The Ironman Foundation Community Fund will give US$55,000 in grant funding to non-profit groups in the Coeur d’Alene community as part of the 2013 Ironman Coeur d’Alene triathlon. The Ironman Foundation’s contribution will provide support to non-profit needs and initiatives within the local community.
With the 2013 donations from the Ironman Foundation, a total of over US$570,000 has been given to support the needs of the community since the first Ironman Coeur d’Alene event in 2003.
Ironman Foundation slots, to raise money for worthy causes, were sold out at Ironman Coeur d’Alene back in January 2013. Set in one of the most picturesque parts of the United States, Ironman Coeur d’Alene, taking place on 23 June 2013, is a popular destination event for athletes and their families.
The first Ironman Coeur d’Alene kicked off in 2003. Last summer, Ironman brand owner World Triathlon Corp (WTC) confirmed that the event will be a mainstay in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, for another five years thanks to a contract extension announced just ahead of the event in June 2012.
Giving back in 2013
The Ironman Foundation will donate US$25,000 to the greater Coeur d’Alene community to support two local non-profit beneficiaries that will use the funds toward local initiatives to better the area. The recipients of these funds will include The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Center in Coeur d’Alene and the City of Coeur d’Alene community fund.
In addition to donating funds to these community organizations, The Ironman Foundation will provide US$30,000 in grant donations to local non-profit groups whose organizations have a volunteer component.
The Ironman Foundation also provides registered athletes with the platform to fundraise for the foundation or a non-profit beneficiary of their choice as they train for their Ironman event. More than 150 athletes are registered as Ironman Foundation athletes for Ironman Coeur d’Alene and many have signed up to participate in The Ironman Foundation’s ‘Your Journey, Your Cause’. These athletes through their participation with the foundation have been touched by something greater than themselves and are giving back to non-profit organizations to make their race experiences more than just crossing the finish line – they are racing for a cause.
Collectively they have raised over US$130,000 for their respective causes. (The Ironman Foundation featured athlete for Coeur d’Alene is Kristina Marquez, an Air Force Veteran raising funds to support the Wounded Warrior project.)
