Orbea-Orca Triathlon Team starts season at Bilbao Triathlon

The recently formed Orbea-Orca Triathlon Team has confirmed its presence at the 2013 Bilbao Triathlon on 18 May – with rapid Ironman bike rider Andrew Starykovicz, Swedish Asa Lundström and the Catalan Albert Moreno all set to take part.

In 2013, the Bilbao Triathlon returns stronger than ever; and in this third edition of the event, the presence of leading Spanish bike brand Orbea and international wetsuit and apparel specialist Orca, gives the organisers an added boost.

An alliance with the local organisers will allow the landing of the Orbea Orca Triathlon Team, which has on its roster a number of renowned athletes as well as up-and-coming young talents – both men and women, across short to long distance triathlon.

Ander Olariaga, Orbea Marketing Manager said “We want the city to enjoy the show, of which triathlon is well represented, and for people to discover the position of Orbea-Orca in the world.”

He continued, “On the other hand, we consider it very interesting to land in Bilbao and the Basque Country to consolidate this sporting event in the international triathlon circuit and the world calendar of triathlons.”

Raúl Casañas, Orca´s Marketing Manager, responsible for the Orbea Orca Triathlon Team, confirmed that “the participation of our team, every May, at the Bilbao Triathlon, is going to be a solid long-term commitment, marking the beginning of the team’s sporting season and will serve to make these athletes known at home, before going on to international sports events.

“We look forward to make a show and surprise with some more news, which we will present during the week of the triathlon of Bilbao.”

Heralding from New Zealand, Orca is part of the Orbea family – with Orbea and Orca reaching an agreement in 2011 for Spanish Orbea to acquire Orca’s ‘operation rights in the triathlon and compression area.’

Orbea is part of the Mondragón Cooperative Corporation and is Spain’s largest bicycle operator.

Andrés Novo, Head of the Bilbao Triathlon, added that he was “very pleased with the agreement reached with Orbea-Orca as it will reinforce the presence of first class world triathletes in Bilbao and serves to further consolidate the event on the international scene.

“It is an honour that we will be able to enjoy in Bilbao of the Orbea-Orca´s Triathlon Team world premiere,” he added.

Novo continued, “We work very hard all year around to make sure everything works well on the day and because of that, it’s a joy to see the big support that we get from the athletes and also from the supporters.

“Although we have less than four months to go before the Bilbao Triathlon takes place, the registration is closed now; and we have had a large waiting list since the end of 2012.”
