Competitor Group Inc (CGI), the leading active lifestyle sports media and event entertainment company, has named Meb Keflezighi, the 2004 Olympic silver medallist in the marathon and the winner of the 2014 Boston Marathon, as Vice President Of Running At Competitor Group.
According to a statement on running.competitor.com, ‘the 2014 Boston Marathon champion will take on a variety of duties in his new role.’
“I am thrilled to join the CGI team at such an exciting time of growth,” said Keflezighi, who, this April, became the first American man to win the Boston Marathon in more than 30 years. “Now that I’ve relocated back to San Diego from Mammoth Lakes, I look forward to working with everyone at CGI and sharing my story and my love for our sport with so many runners around the world.
As VP of Running for CGI, Keflezighi will make regular contributions to Competitor magazine and Competitor.com, help develop training plans for runners, support the company’s sales team and make appearances at the company’s events.
Keflezighi continued, “I’m excited to work with the talented staff at CGI to develop training plans and social media content to help millions of runners ‘Run to Win’—which doesn’t always mean first place, it means getting the best out of yourself.”
“Meb’s appointment as VP of Running is another tremendous milestone for CGI,” Competitor Group CEO David Abeles said. “We were looking for someone with energy, experience and a passion for the sport to power CGI to higher levels of success. We are confident that Meb’s proven ability to inspire and motivate runners of all levels will get us there.
“We’re pleased to welcome him to our team, where he will play a key role working with our event managers, developing training content, interacting with our runners at Rock ‘n’ Roll events, creating social media promotions and much more. It is critical that we are completely authentic in everything we do in running and who better to ensure that than Meb, one of the most unique people and authentic runners the world has ever seen.”
