The Windsor Triathlon, a seven time winner of the much sought after BTF Triathlon of the Year award, celebrates its 25th anniversary on Sunday 14 June 2015 in Windsor, UK. Since 1991 triathletes have converged on Royal Windsor to compete in the shadow of the world famous castle. Entries are already being accepted for the 2015 event, and everyone who signs up will receive a commemorative t-shirt and medal.
To mark this momentous occasion, event organiser Human Race is ‘planning something very special that no triathlete will want to miss.’
Human Race is inviting every single male and female elite winner from the event’s history to return and compete for the 25th anniversary. The aim is to celebrate the growth of triathlon over the last quarter-century, and the tradition of the Windsor Triathlon, which has played a considerable part in the progression of the sport. Human Race would also like to welcome winners from all age groups, from every year, in the hope that everyone can all convene for an incredible group photo on the Sunday.
As the years have passed former winners are scattered across the globe, and they can get in touch by either tweeting the @HumanRaceEvents twitter account using #WindsorTri25, or leaving a message on the Human Race Facebook page.
Notable previous winners include Spencer Smith, who won the original 1991 event and went on to win six of the first nine years. Also Sian Brice, who dominated the female competition at the end of the twentieth century, winning a total of four titles. More recently Jodie Stimpson, who was a double Gold medal winner at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games, claimed first place in 2009. Other familiar names who are invited to return include Stuart Hayes, Richard Stannard and Tim Don.
Plans are being finalised for a number of special celebrations to ensure the anniversary of this iconic event is remembered for decades to come. Full details will be revealed in due course, but Human Race is ‘delighted that a number of former winners will be holding question and answer sessions in the event village on Saturday 13 June.’ This is seen as an opportunity to hear some last minute pearls of wisdom and tips from a Windsor Triathlon champion.
As in previous years demand for the Windsor Triathlon is likely to far outstrip capacity, so anybody who is interested in being part of UK triathlon history should sign up quickly at www.humanrace.co.uk/triathlon to secure their place. Further 25th anniversary announcements will be made in due course.
