Tom Bishop, winner of Windsor Triathlon in 2011 and 2013 has confirmed that will be joining other previous winners including Stuart Hayes, Sian Brice and Richard Stannard at the Windsor Triathlon 25th anniversary celebrations in June 2015.
Ahead of the celebrations, and the 25th edition of a race awarded ‘Event of the Year’ seven times by the British Triathlon Federation, past winners will be sharing their tips on how to ensure an optimum performance on the Windsor course:
- Get to know the bike course beforehand even if it means driving the roads or studying Google maps. Athletes can then gauge where to spend energy depending on what part of the course you are on and how long is left.
- Practice swimming open water, ideally in a river. Swimming with and against a current is different to swimming in a lake or a pool, it’s worth getting an idea of how currents work – they are usually less strong toward the edge of the river.
- Practice dead turns during running reps. Windsor’s run course is designed with dead turns and with three laps, that’s over 10 in the race.
- Have a good meal the night before the race and a light breakfast if an early start. You’ll be racing for over two hours and you need to make sure you have the energy stores to get through the event.
- Get some support to the race, either family or friends. It’s always a boost when you see some familiar faces or hear your name called whilst racing. It gives you that extra push that you sometimes need.
Tom Bishop added, “I love Windsor for the support and the crowd has definitely helped me achieve success in the previous years.”
Athletes can put these tips to good use and find themselves on a course alongside ‘legends of Windsor Triathlon’ on 14 June 2015. There are now only a few remaining spots available so athletes are advised to book ahead of the entry deadline of 31 January 2015.
