Ironman brand owner World Triathlon Corp (WTC) has confirmed that 6-time Ironman champion and legend of the sport Dave Scott is set to join the action at the new Ironman 70.3 Western Sydney event, which gets under way on Sunday 30 November 2014.
One of the newest additions to the international Ironman 70.3 series, Ironman 70.3 Western Sydney will be situated at the Sydney International Regatta Centre. At the event, Dave Scott will be sharing his skills, knowledge and competitive insights with the ‘Young Guns’ of Ironman competition by hosting a variety of coaching and mentoring activities in the lead up to the inaugural event.
Ironman 70.3 Western Sydney is primed to become one of Australia’s centrepiece IM 70.3 races. It has already proved to be a hot race on the circuit among professional and age group athletes, with the field now nearing capacity for individual and relay teams’ registration.
Ironman Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Meyer welcomed the profile and support of having a legend such as Dave Scott involved.

NSW Minister for Sport and Recreation and Minister Assisting the Premier on Western Sydney, Stuart Ayres, welcomed the attendance of Dave Scott at the upcoming Ironman 70.3 Western Sydney.
“The Ironman 70.3 Western Sydney is a fantastic new addition to the NSW events calendar, and one the Government is proud to support through our tourism and major events agency Destination NSW,” Ayres said.
“Dave Scott’s expert knowledge and legend status will help grow the profile of the event, which is already expected to generate more than AU$2.5 million total visitor spend from overseas, interstate and intrastate visitors from 2014 to 2016,” he added.
The coaching clinic, presented by Atmosphere Health Club, will run in the immediate lead up to race week. Presented by some of the sport’s most successful coaches, the clinic will provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of triathlon training and racing while aiming to enhance knowledge and lead to improved performance. It is specifically targeted to participants looking for race performance in the Ironman series of events.
Dave Scott, who has been involved in the sport for over 30 years, will be a keynote speaker at the ‘Legends of Ironman Dinner’ on Friday 28 November. The dinner event will kick off the highly anticipated race weekend and will also feature Australia’s very own legends, 5 x Ironman World Champion Craig ‘Crowie’ Alexander and the inspiring Ironman Hall of Famer and Penrith local, John Maclean.
“I am thrilled to be part of the first Ironman 70.3 event in Western Sydney and am looking forward to hosting the coaching clinic preparing the athletes for the race but giving them some new triathlon tools and skills to work on during the race and the upcoming year,” said Dave Scott

Proceeds from the dinner event will go to support the John Maclean Foundation, which endeavours to motivate, inspire and enable Australian kids in wheelchairs to chase their dreams.
IronKids Western Sydney will also be on the event line-up providing children with the opportunity to try a tri, with short and achievable distances. The kids’ triathlon will take place on Saturday 29 November and all IronKids will be awarded with a participation medal from elite athletes and Dave Scott as they cross the Ironman finish line in front of the Regatta Centre stadium.

The Ironman 70.3 Western Sydney course is nestled at the base of the Blue Mountains and will utilise the Penrith Lakes, located at the Sydney International Regatta Centre, for the swim. The bike course will include breath-taking mountain views and the final run leg of the race, which encircles the venue, will provide a great access to spectators of the entire race.
Ironman 70.3 Western Sydney will award 35 age group qualifying spots for the 2015 Ironman 70.3 World Championship.
