Pacific Sports and ACTIVE Network are expanding their KIDS in the GAME charity initiative to the US Open Triathlon in Rockwall and Heath, Texas, on 12 October.
KIDS in the GAME ‘Take Care of Texas’ will provide financial assistance to help young people from low-income families of all abilities gain access to after school sports programs and physical education programs in schools. Originally launched with the Herbalife Triathlon and raising funds for kids in the Torrance, California, area, all funds donated to KIDS in the GAME through the U.S. Open Triathlon will benefit Rockwall/Heath/Dallas Metroplex-area youth who want to be involved in sports organizations, but do not have the financial resources to do so.
A US$30 donation to KIDS in the GAME through the US Open will support one local low income child in youth sports organizations such as the J.E.R. Chilton YMCA in Rockwall and the Girls on the Run Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex chapter.
“We know from our research related to the Herbalife Triathlon that kids who get involved in sports, and create goals can achieve through sports and physical activity, have a more balanced life and a much better shot at becoming better and more healthy adults,” said Pacific Sports President Jack Caress. “Our US Open goal is to fund 300 kids in the Rockwall/Heath/Dallas Metroplex area.”
Data shows that youth who are involved in sports and physical activities are less likely to drop out of school, have less misconduct, less obesity and health issues, and have better academic performance.
KIDS in the GAME data also shows that 62% of kids aged 13 to 16 don’t participate in sports because of financial constraints. Pacific Sports and ACTIVE note that US Open Triathlon participants, and others who are interested, can help Rockwall/Heath/Dallas Metroplex youth of all ages get in the game and thrive in life. KIDS in the GAME will track the effect of money contributed and provide a report on the results of kids’ sports activity.
Registration is open and the US Open Triathlon schedule includes the Saturday 11 October Fitness Expo at the Hilton Dallas/Rockwall Lakefront, with vendors, retailers, workshops and course talks, all of which are free to the public.
Saturday is also late registration (if there are spots open) and mandatory packet pickup for competitors. Competition distances include Olympic, Sprint and Super Sprint, relays, two youth courses, the USAT South Midwest Collegiate Championship and a Tri Club Championship.
Race day is Sunday 12 October with the first race going off at 07:45 local time.
