Lagardère confirms date for 2015 Vitality World Triathlon London

Lagardère Unlimited Events, in partnership with British Triathlon, has today confirmed that the 2015 Vitality World Triathlon London will return to the iconic Hyde Park venue, the home of the London 2012 Olympic triathlon, on 30-31 May 2015.

Entries for the 2015 event will be sold on a first come, first served basis. Individuals who pre-register will qualify for a week long priority booking window that will give them an opportunity to secure their entry before the event goes on general sale.

The sell-out event, widely regarded as one of the UK’s most prestigious triathlons, is now in its sixth year and will once again welcome over 5,000 triathletes of all abilities as well as the world’s best triathletes as part of the ITU World Triathlon Series races. The distances on offer will include Super Sprint (400m swim, 10K bike, 2.5K run), Sprint (750m swim, 20K bike, 5K run), Olympic (1.5K swim, 40K bike, 10K run) and the Team Relay option.

As one of only two legacy events from the London 2012 Olympic Games still open to public participation, demand is once again expected to be extremely high.

Marisol Cassado, IOC Member and President of the International Triathlon Union (ITU), said “The Vitality World Triathlon London holds special significance in the series. Not only is it one of the longest-standing hosts within the World Triathlon Series, the course became a part of history as the site of the 2012 London Olympics. Since then, the race has continued to make history with top-notch elite competition.”

Speaking on behalf of the title sponsor of the event, Neville Koopowitz, CEO, Vitality for PruHealth and PruProtect said “We are delighted to kick off the third year of our participation in the World Triathlon London, which represents the sport at its highest level. It embodies all we stand for and supports our aim of using the power of sport to help people set and achieve new fitness goals. This increasingly popular and high profile event in the triathlon calendar provides a great opportunity for participants of all levels to take part.”

Jon Ridgeon, British Triathlon Director for Major and National Events, said “British Triathlon is delighted to welcome the ITU World Triathlon Series back to Hyde Park on 30-31 May next year. The event will once again provide the opportunity for thousands of amateur triathletes to compete at the iconic venue alongside the world’s leading elite triathletes and paratriathletes.

“This year’s event provided the perfect showcase for triathlon in Great Britain with packed crowds lining the course. In 2015, I expect much of the same with vocal support for everyone taking part.”

Penelope Boyd, Head of Events and Filming at The Royal Parks, said “It’s great to see the return of triathlon to Hyde Park. Triathlon enables everyday park visitors and sport lovers to experience world class competition for free over one weekend, where the likes of Jonathan and Alistair Brownlee swim, cycle and run their way around the picturesque and iconic Hyde Park. The event underlines London’s role as the leading city for global sporting events by bringing world-class competition to one of the capital’s most famous landmarks.”

The Vitality World Triathlon London, organised by British Triathlon and Lagardère Unlimited Events UK, is delivered in partnership with UK Sport, London & Partners, Royal Parks and the Mayor of London.
