Former IRONMAN World Champion Leanda Cave is unveiling her Romero Britto-designed bike to benefit the UnitedHealthcare Children’s Foundation.
Internationally acclaimed Miami-based neo-pop artist and painter Romero Britto and four-time IRONMAN champion Leanda Cave are combining their artistic and athletic talents to support the UnitedHealthcare Children’s Foundation by auctioning the specially-designed bike.
The unveiling and charity auction of the handcrafted bike via charitybuzz.com will occur on Friday 10 October at 17:00 local time in Hawaii at the bike check-in located at the King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel. Athletes, fans and spectators from around the world will have a rare opportunity to not only own a piece of IRONMAN history but also support a cause that will help children receive the medical care they so desperately need. Romero Britto designed the artistry that appears on the frame of Cave’s Canyon Speedmax CF 9.0 triathlon bike she will ride at this year’s IRONMAN World Championship presented by GoPro in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii on Saturday 11 October. In 2012, Cave became the first woman in the history of the sport to win both the IRONMAN World Championship and IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in the same year.
The auction, which runs from 10-26 October, concludes on the final day of the City Bikes IRONMAN 70.3 Miami, where Cave will race the Britto-designed triathlon bike for the last time. All proceeds from the auction will go toward supporting the UnitedHealthcare Children’s Foundation, a charitable organization that provides medical grants to help children gain access to health-related services not covered, or not fully covered, by their parents’ commercial health insurance plan.
