London Triathlon 2015 heads through Canary Wharf

The ‘world’s largest triathlon’, the London Triathlon, is changing the Sunday event’s bike route for 2015. The legendary London event takes place on 8-9 August 2015 and offers a variety of distances for athletes of all levels. The change in the Sunday bike route will take triathletes through the unique setting of Canary Wharf.

Canary Wharf, the premier business and shopping district, which has hundreds of shops, bars and restaurants, as well as an award winning public art collection, will play host to all triathletes taking part on the Sunday including the elite field with the new bike route.

The new route will offer ‘fantastic spectator viewing points and exciting celebrations throughout the centre as participants make their way through the iconic financial heart of London.’

Canary Wharf is no stranger to triathlon, with itself hosting a triathlon in 2011 and 2012 as part of the British Triathlon Super Series.

Camille Waxer, Chief Administrative Officer, Canary Wharf Group, said “Sporting activities at Canary Wharf are hugely popular and we happily support initiatives just like the London Triathlon that gets London up and energised. As a previous host of the Canary Wharf Triathlon, we’re pleased to welcome back triathletes and offer them the opportunity to ride through this exciting part of London.”

She added, “Canary Wharf has an abundance of bars, restaurants and cafés all offering spectacular viewing points and some of London’s best hospitality options, making this the ideal spot for spectators and supporters to gather and celebrate.”

The London Triathlon continues to be a highlight event of the UK triathlon calendar, which as part of the British Triathlon Super Series attracts a high calibre elite field; and in addition to the elites saw 13,000 general participants swim, bike and run the capital in 2014.

James Robinson, Managing Director of event organiser IMG Challenger World, said “For years Canary Wharf has provided a brilliant backdrop to the London Triathlon. As an iconic London business & shopping centre and skyline, it is fantastic that we can now offer our triathletes the chance to ride this route.

“We’re thrilled to be bringing this exciting, new addition to the Sunday bike route.”
