A record number of runners took part in Sunday’s We Love MCR 10K at the Etihad Campus in East Manchester. The event, billed as the ‘people’s race,’ welcomed almost 3,500 runners of all ages and standards, with the male winner, Mohammed Abu-Rezeq, completing the fast course in 30:39 minutes and the female winner Jessica Coulson in a time of 34:04.
Team Swinton were the winners of the Bird Consultancy Corporate Challenge, taking home the corporate trophy and sports vouchers.
With the majority of runners competing for their chosen charities and individual good causes, Manchester’s Lord Mayor Cllr. Susan Cooley started the race with Dr Ron Hill MBE.
Commenting on the event the Lord Mayor said “Manchester’s very own charity is the We Love MCR charity, and I am delighted to have welcomed so many people running for their own good causes as well as those of the city.”
Graham Jackson, Race Director from organiser Sports Tours International added, “Firstly I would like to thank all those who competed, as well as Manchester City Council, Mercedes Manchester and the We Love MCR Charity for their fantastic support.
“Our event gets bigger each year but we are committed to ensuring it is a friendly race for all abilities and standards. We want all of our races to be an opportunity for friends, families and first time runners to enjoy the benefits of running.”
Sports Tours International also organises the City of Salford 10K, which will take place on Sunday 7 September and the Grand 10Kk Run at Aintree on Sunday 28 September.
