Triathlon de Portocolom and Let’s Tri Series target UK triathletes

Triathlon de Portocolom – voted ‘Best Tri in the Balearics’ and held in Mallorca, Spain – alongside the Let’s Tri duathlon and triathlon series –  will add a little sunshine to the UK’s Triathlon Show 2014, which takes place from 28 February to 2 March.

By attending the Triathlon Show, the Spanish event organisers hope that British triathletes will discover these high quality events, which are well connected by plane to the UK and the rest of Europe. The events in Mallorca should also offer up great weather conditions all year long and a respite from the sometimes challenging UK climate!

Specifically targeting UK triathletes, and those in the affluent South East of England, Triathlon Internacional de Portocolom and Let’s Tri Series will be showcasing their triathlon and duathlon events in the Spanish Balearic Islands. Kumulus, a local sports event company based in Mallorca, is the organiser of Triathlon Portocolom and Let’s Tri – alongside events such as Ironman 70.3 Mallorca and the Tui Mallorca Marathon amongst others. A team from Kumulus will explain to UK athletes the best options to travel to Mallorca and where to stay and train.

Triathlon de Portocolom
The next edition of Triathlon de Portocolom is on 13 April 2014 in Portocolom, Mallorca; and registration for the competitions over 55.5K and 111K are already open. More than 700 athletes enjoyed the 2013 edition and the number of participants in 2014 will be limited to 800 ‘to secure perfect conditions for the athletes and the spectacular and tough double bike ascent to Sant Salvador.’

Portocolom is an especially pleasant spot to start training and racing in Europe due to generally nice weather in April; and Mallorca has great flight connections to many main European cities. Last year, athletes from 16 different countries visited the event and enjoyed a demanding bike segment after a short swim in the Mediterranean Sea. The competition will be held at the impressive Portocolom Club Nautic.

Let’s Tri Series
Let’s Tri is a new triathlon and duathlon series in Mallorca, and offers a wide range of athletes a new approach to triathlon in the Balearic Islands… ‘full of fun and perfect for all skills/levels, from beginners to top endurance triathletes, the whole year round.’

Let’s Tri starts with the Alcudia Olympic Duathlon on 22 March and ends with the Pollença Triathlon on 6 September. Let’s Tri Alcudia Duathlon is positioned as a season opener with its 10K run, 40K bike and 5K run. The venue in Alcudia is popular with many international triathletes, who visit to enjoy training camps in the Mallorca village.

Let’s Tri Pollença will be hosted in the village of Pollença, located in the north of Mallorca. This event also offers up a demanding bike course, similar to that of the Ironman 70.3 Mallorca. Here, the event’s 56K cycling leg journeys around Pollença, Lluc, Selva, Campanet and Pollença. Before the bike segment, athletes have to swim 1.9K in the scenic Mediterranean, close to the port. The run course is a tough one, with a hilly profile and spectacular finish line in this picturesque village.
