Triathlon Training Spain – looking back and ahead into 2015

Triathlon Training Spain is a training camp venue (in Spain – Casa de Triatlo) that provides specific and professional coaching in both swim and triathlon, and also on-line coaching, to a number of triathletes in the UK and internationally.

Throughout 2014 the company’s reports that its triathlon and swim camps have been fully booked for those wanting a ‘relaxed, but intense, learning and training experience as web reviews clearly demonstrate.’

The long weekend swim camps and Triathlon Training Spain’s new 5-day intensive swim camps have again proven to be successful over the last few months of the year. Casa de Triatlo has been booked solid from late September through to mid-December when the company ends the season with another specially requested ‘Dutch Exclusive Swim Camp’ – with more visitors from the same town in the Netherlands and more to come in 2015.

Look ahead to 2015
The weekend and 5-day swim camps for early 2015 are now fully booked prior to Martin visiting the UK to attend the 220 Triathlon Show at Sandown Park (Stand S12). Casa de Triatlo then has a series of swim and triathlon camps scheduled, again some already booked up and specially requested.

A major addition to the 2015 season will be that Martin will be providing coaching advice to Iain Gillam – a British triathlete – who is moving to live and train in Spain from January 2015. Iain will have access to the Wattbikes and a new Vasa Ergo meter to supplement his training.

Iain will be training full time with the aim of achieving his goal of winning a World Championship medal; Iain’s major events for 2015 are:

  • BTF British Triathlon Championships, Standard Distance
  • ETU European Triathlon Championships Geneva, Standard Distance
  • ITU World Duathlon Championships Adelaide, Sprint Distance

In his venture, Iain will be publishing his daily training and lifestyle in the form of an in-depth and open look diary and will use a range of training analysis tools he has developed to bring a more open and unguarded picture of training, diet and recovery in a web-based format.

Martin will be hosting a triathlon training camp for some of his coached triathletes in March 2015 when Iain will also be involved in the training with his newly acquired local knowledge of the area, particularly for bike rides.

It is anticipated that other triathletes may join Martin in Spain, and there are a number of local coaching opportunities that could widen the exposure of partner brand blueseventy – from pool based swim sessions to open water sessions off local beaches.

Head Coach Martin Hill, Certified Swim Smooth Coach and British Triathlon Level 3 Coach provides virtually round the clock coaching, advice and guidance during all camps (as attendees eat, sleep and live in his home, with catering provided by his wife Linda).

Strength and conditioning sessions and advice is provided at some training camps by Assistant Coach Matt Hill who is located in the UK. Matt is a Personal Trainer specialising in strength and conditioning for sport performance, a swim coach with a competitive swim background and still competes in Masters Competitions to a high standard.

Both Martin and Matt impart thorough and analytical coaching with every athlete attending training camps in Spain – who benefit from having a swim video analysis comprising multi-angle swim video filming in high definition followed by a post-swim, slow motion debrief on the big screen. This is followed up by specific swim stroke correction sessions.

The team note that visitors to Casa de Triatlo over 2014 have again arrived from all parts of Europe and North America and have ranged in ability from novice triathletes and swimmers through to professional long distance triathletes.
