British Triathlon has unveiled the Windsor Duathlon, which is billed as a ground-breaking new event to be held in the magnificent setting of Windsor Great Park on 3 April 2016.
The arrival of Windsor Duathlon on British Triathlon’s major events programme is seen as a historic occasion ‘offering athletes the chance to write their names in the history books with British Championship titles available across every level of the sport.’
Organized by British Triathlon, entries to the Windsor Duathlon are limited to just 1,000 places across mass participation sprint and standard distance races. The aim is to make this festival styled event a must-do race on the 2016 calendar.
To register your interest in taking part in Windsor Duathlon, athletes should visit windsorduathlon.com. Registration will ensure athletes are the first to hear about entries opening to the general public.
Home Nation members will receive an exclusive priority entry window that will begin on 1 October 2015. The event will host five British Championships plus the opportunity to qualify for the Great Britain Age-Group Team.
The full list of titles up for grabs includes:
- British Age-Group Standard Distance Duathlon Championships (Great Britain Age-Group Team qualifier)
- British Elite Senior Duathlon Championships
- British Elite Youth Duathlon Championships
- British Elite Junior Duathlon Championships
- British Paraduathlon Championships
Newcomers to the sport will also be able to take part – with sprint (5K run, 20K bike, 2.5K run), standard (10K run, 40K bike, 5K run), relay (5K run, 20K bike, 2.5K run) and paraduathlon (5K run, 20K bike, 2.5K run) races available for those looking to get their first taste of duathlon.
Windsor Great Park is part of The Crown Estate, an independent commercial business that pays its profits to the UK Treasury for the benefit of the nation’s finances. The 5,000 acre park is much used for recreational sporting activity and offers an extensive network of private roads that will create a course, set among historic landmarks including The Long Walk, The Copper Horse, The Jubilee Statue, Prince Consort Statue, and The Savill Garden, not to mention Windsor Castle as an eye-catching backdrop.

He said “This is an event that is set to become one of the real highlights in the world of multisport. With British titles available for both elite and age-group competitors alongside sprint, standard, relay and paraduathlon races for newcomers to the sport, this will be a true festival of duathlon.
“Following the success of Tri Liverpool earlier this year where almost 1,500 athletes took part in our triathlon festival, Windsor Duathlon will create the same world-class experience in Windsor Great Park where we aim to create a fantastic occasion in April 2016 as the sport prepares for another exciting year with Rio on the horizon.”
