In 2015, RACEPLACE, Southern California’s premiere source for running, cycling, triathlon and water sports events, will be celebrating its 30th anniversary. As it celebrates its 30th year in business, RACEPLACE is now entering into a partnership with USAT and Ironman Hall of famer Bob Babbitt.
Created originally by Rose and Mike Reilly, RACEPLACE’s owner and publisher is now their son Andy Reilly.
“I was born 1 year after RACEPLACE was founded so I basically grew up with the magazine,” said Reilly. “Over the years I’ve spent many weekends at events distributing the magazine so I understand how important RACEPLACE has become for endurance athletes in Southern California, the most active and important participatory region in the nation.
“To celebrate our 30th Anniversary we have revamped RACEPLACE.com by improving the race calendar and event search experience. We’ve also added new advertising options for organizers and brands to better promote their businesses.
“Between our annual 250,000 print circulation and distribution six times a year, improved magazine paper stock, 60,000 athlete data base and growing online and social presence, we’re looking to expand the reach and following for RACEPLACE significantly in 2015. We now have the capabilities to help promote and serve not only the race director, but also national advertisers as well.”
As part of the new-look RACEPLACE, the co-founder of Competitor Magazine and the co-founder of the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF), Bob Babbitt, will be joining the RACEPLACE team to be the editor of the magazine and to add content to both the magazine and the website.
“Bob has over 30 years of publishing experience,” added Reilly, “and he is a firm believer in a publication that showcases not just running, but all of the great sports we have here in Southern California. Bob’s passion for endurance sports is second to none and we are thrilled to have him join our team.”
“My belief is that RACEPLACE has a ton of potential,” said Babbitt, who is an inductee into both the USA Triathlon Hall of Fame and Ironman Triathlon Hall of Fame and helped to take Competitor Magazine from one regional publication in Southern California to a nationwide phenomenon now known as The Competitor Group.
“At RACEPLACE we have an opportunity to partner with our race directors, retailers and manufacturers to grow the endurance sports space. The more participants we can bring to all our events, the better.”
