Hot on the heels of unveiling TOUGHMAN South Carolina, the TOUGHMAN series organisers have confirmed that TOUGHMAN Brazil will expand the series in South America. This new race will take place in Paulínia, state of São Paulo, on 5 November (shifted from an originally confirmed date of 14 October 2017).

With TOUGHMAN half iron distance races now in Argentina, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica and Chile, expanding to Brazil was seen as a natural step for the TOUGHMAN brand for 2017. This will give athletes from the South America region, and travelling athletes into the area, an opportunity to race a TOUGHMAN half event in 2017. The TOUGHMAN Chile race will now become the Pan American Championship for 2017.

The series is now taking place in 19 locations in North and South America – with more locations and more partnerships set to be announced for 2017. The confirmed event dates for 2017 are currently as follows:

  • TOUGHMAN Argentina – February 5, 2017
  • TOUGHMAN Arizona – March 18, 2017
  • TOUGHMAN Mexico – April 2, 2017
  • TOUGHMAN Indiana – May 20, 2017
  • TOUGHMAN Washington State – June 3, 2017
  • TOUGHMAN Wisconsin – June 17, 2017
  • TOUGHMAN Utah – July 15, 2017
  • TOUGHMAN Chile – July 23, 2017
  • TOUGHMAN Minnesota – July 30, 2017
  • TOUGHMAN New Mexico – August 20, 2017
  • TOUGHMAN Half Championship – Stony Point, NY – September 17, 2017
  • TOUGHMAN Puerto Rico – October 1, 2017
  • TOUGHMAN Brazil – November 5, 2017
  • TOUGHMAN Tennessee – October 8, 2017
  • TOUGHMAN Costa Rica – October 21, 2017

Richard Izzo at TOUGHMAN recently said, “The way forward for all independent brands is to join a brand like us, so that as a unit we can give the athletes a standard, safe, great race experience as well as attract major sponsorships to support each race through our increased leverage.” He continued, “For 2016 we have partnerships with Polar, Orca, Clif Bar, Altra and a worldwide partner for coaching in Trisutto that will attract another type of athlete to our races for 2017. Having a New York Championship event as the goal for racers to qualify to race makes racing a bit more exciting.”

Over 100 age group qualifiers from each race in the series will receive invitations for the TOUGHMAN Half Iron International Championship on 17 September 2017, where they will compete for a cash purse of US$4950. Athletes in the open division will compete for over US$30,000 worth of awards.
