City Bikes, a leading specialty bike and multisport retailer, has announced a new partnership with triathlete Leanda Cave, the 2012 IRONMAN and IRONMAN 70.3 World Champion.
The overall four-time world champion, who boasts 34 triathlon victories, will wear City Bikes branding on her race and training gear along with making special appearances at City Bikes’ locations in Aventura & Pembroke Pines, Florida.
“City Bikes is Miami’s leading triathlon bike store, committed to supporting local athletes and events with their wealth of knowledge and expertise,” said Leanda Cave.
“I’ve been living and training out of the Miami area for a few years now and the folks at City Bikes have been pivotal in providing me with service and parts needed to keep me competing at the highest level. For these reasons, I’m very proud and excited to be joining the City Bikes team.”
The management at City Bikes added, “We are thrilled Leanda will represent City Bikes worldwide but in particular in the South Florida triathlon community. We have watched and interacted with Leanda for the past several years and we we’ve always been impressed with her professional ethics, casual and approachable demeanour, and she’s always available for a chat or a quick snap shot with our customers.”
Founded in 2002, City Bikes is a family owned business and a leading player in both cycling and triathlon. Through several expansions at its original retail location in Aventura, City Bikes recently opened a second location in Pembroke Pines to better serve its customers.
City Bikes adds that it is more than just a retail presence in South Florida; the retailer is also very involved with the local community through partnerships with races, clubs, teams and special events.
Leanda Cave has been competing in triathlons since 1994. She began her triathlon career at the Olympic distance and gradually made her way to dominating long course triathlon. In 2001, Leanda became European Under-23 champion. A year later she broke through at the international level, winning silver at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester. She won another silver medal at the European Championships, then had greater success when she took the gold and the world title in Cancun, Mexico, in November 2002.
In 2002 and 2012, Leanda was nominated for the Welsh Sports Personality of the Year Award. In 2012, Leanda won both the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championships and IRONMAN World Championships. She became the first female triathlete in history to accomplish both feats in a single year. That same year Leanda was also named as one of the ‘World’s Fittest Women’ by CNN. This is quite a recognition as 2012 was also an Olympic year.
