The launch of the MP brand last year – the collaboration between Michael Phelps, Bob Bowman and Aqua Sphere – created a new line of premier competitive swim gear and training equipment.
Phelps and Bowman had ‘very clear ideas about what should be improved in the world of competitive swim gear and their product development priorities and feedback helped Aqua Sphere to convert their ideas into working products.’ New MP products include competitive swimming suits, training suits, goggles and training gear. Phelps is training using the entire MP line heading into the 2016 Olympics.
Available from May, the new X-O Swimming Cap is ‘performance cut and ergonomically designed to deliver the best hydrodynamic 3D shape possible.’ Utilising Exo-Core Technology, which combines two thicknesses of silicone for maximum performance, the X-O is… ‘engineered with integrated, dual-density stretch zones, ensuring a sleek and secure fit without wrinkling or riding up, and stabilizing ribs and internal dimpling help to keep the cap in place.’
If it is used in conjunction with the performance Compression Cap, this is designed to further improve the hydrodynamic shape of the head. FINA approved, the latex-free X-O is sold with a handy reusable protective hard case.
Michael Phelps said “The cut of the X-O cap is perfect. It doesn’t ride, it doesn’t wrinkle. It’s not completely over my ears, so I can hear.”
Coach Bob Bowman added “The swim cap is very important to a swimmer’s performance. We’ve created a cap that’s going to provide maximum control of the hair with a minimum of wrinkles for the most streamlined movement through the water.”
The X-O cap by MP designed by Aqua Sphere is available in small, medium and large sizes, in a choice of four colourways, and is priced at £14.99 SRP. The compression cap is £9.99. The new product will be available from swim, sports and multisport stores from May.
