Herbalife IRONMAN 70.3 Gdynia takes place on 5-7 August 2016, with registration still open until the end of July. The organising team state that in total over 3,800 athletes have already signed up for a variety of events taking place that weekend.
The triathlon competitions kick off on Friday 5 August with Itaka IRONKIDS, the first-ever IRONKIDS event to be held in Poland, organised in the aquathlon format. On Saturday 6 August the sprint triathlon races will take place, both individual and relay. This is followed by the main IRONMAN 70.3 competition on Sunday 7 August. Organisers expect 2,300 participants from more than 30 countries to take part in the main event.
The entertainment event programme organised in conjunction with the Herbalife IRONMAN 70.3 Gdynia kicks off on Thursday 4 August with the outdoor cinema at Grunwadzki Square, provided by cable TV operator Vectra, the race partner. Here, visitors can watch Tour de France (Thursday), Fighter (Friday) and The Finishers (Saturday), all with English subtitles.
Friday is the opening day for the Expo and IRONMAN Merchandise Store, both located at Kosciuszki Square. On Friday morning, those interested can take part in an official swim training session. Athletes also get the opportunity to have their picture taken in front of a giant M-Dot shaped clock, counting down days and hours left to the race start.
On Saturday, another morning swim training session will be followed by the sprint competitions, bike check-in and athlete briefing, with the race office and expo open all day. In the evening, the ‘Triathlon Story’ play will premiere at the Music Theatre in Gdynia.
On Sunday, once athletes have completed the race, bike check-out and the slot allocation ceremony, with 35 slots available for the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championships 2017, they are encouraged to join the all-triathlon after party in the Pok?ad Club to share their race impressions.
