The Sufferfest’s very own Grunter von Agony is taking to the airwaves to ‘spread his message of Suffering’ in a new podcast. The Sufferfest, ‘creator of the world’s best cycling videos for individual and group training’, has confirmed the launch of ‘Everybody Hurts: A Radio Free Sufferlandria Podcast’, featuring interviews with cyclists, athletes, and inspirational figures.
Available via iTunes and Soundcloud, the podcast show will explore the theme of Suffering. The team at The Sufferfest note that this is ‘not for suffering’s sake, mind you, but as a means through which people confront their fears, challenge their limitations, and gain a better understanding of themselves.’
The first three episodes feature:
- Neal Henderson: a sit down with Neal Henderson, founder of APEX Coaching, elite coach to the BMC Pro Racing Team and stars such as Evelyn Stevens, Taylor Phinney and Rohan Dennis. Henderson is the ‘evil genius behind many of The Sufferfest workouts’, including Blender, The Omnium, and ISLAGIATT. The podcast talks through Suffering in the Hour Record and finds out the most Neal has ever suffered.
- Kathryn Bertine: The Sufferfest notes that few people have done as much for the sport of women’s cycling as this hugely influential author, activist, filmmaker and recovering professional cyclist. She is also co-founder of The Homestretch Foundation, which assists low-income female professional athletes.
- Richard Bye: In 2013, frustrated with the lack of clothing options for cyclists who weren’t whippet thin, Richard together with his wife Lynne, started a performance cycling apparel company called Fat Lad at the Back, or FLAB. In the podcast Richard talks about challenging stereotypes and how to get more people on bikes.
Future Sufferfest podcast episodes will include chats with The Col Collective’s saddle-averse Mike Cotty, Faithless/Pendulum guitarist and Sufferlandrian, Perry ap Gwynedd, and the first female Knight of Sufferlandria, Dame Liz Johns.
