The Nautica Malibu Triathlon presented by Bank of America added a ‘Long Course’ distance in January and the brand-new event has reportedly now sold out, reaching capacity just over 30 days from race weekend. Online registration is still open for the Olympic and Classic distances, with the 33rd edition of the iconic event scheduled for September 13-15, 2019.
The sold-out Long Course event will take place on the morning of Saturday, September 14; featuring a 1.2-mile ocean swim, 56-mile bike ride along the Malibu coast and ending with a 13.1-mile run adjacent to the beach.
“We are less than a month from race day and our new long course distance is officially sold out, which is a testament to the strong triathlon community we have in Southern California,” said Michael Epstein, Executive Producer of the Nautica Malibu Triathlon. “Being 2019 is the first year we offered this longer distance and it was only launched eight months ago, we are thrilled so many participants are excited to try it out.
“We do still have a few spots left in the Olympic and classic distances, so now is the time to be a part of this incredible event in one of the world’s most beautiful places to swim, bike and run.”
The Nautica Malibu Triathlon brings together athletes, philanthropists, supporters and celebrities. Past celebrity participants include Zac Efron, James Marsden, Jennifer Lopez, Karla Souza and many more.
Each of the Long Course, Olympic and Classic distances start and finish on the sands of Zuma Beach; feature a scenic bike course along coastline; and offer views of the ocean with a run to the finish line adjacent to the Pacific Coast Highway.
The Olympic-distance race (Saturday, September 14) includes a 1.5K ocean swim, 40K out-and-back bike ride and a 10K run along Zuma Beach. While, the Classic sprint race (Sunday, September 15) includes a .05-mile ocean swim, 17-mile out-and-back bike ride and a 4-mile run.
Annually, more than 40 Los Angeles area corporations and entertainment industry companies vie not just for bragging rights for the fastest time but for the most money raised for paediatric cancer research at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
Last year, athletes participating in the Nautica Malibu Triathlon raised more than US$1.4 million to support treatments and therapies for children with some of the most serious and life-threatening forms of cancers.
