In our latest ‘inside the news’ interview, we spoke with Chris Ruddock, Managing Director at INCUS Performance, and explored the many opportunities posed by new wearable tech.

The discussion with Chris covered many areas, including: how the wearable INCUS analytics tool works and how it has evolved, new versions of INCUS in the pipeline, and the emerging role of new, advanced wearables for endurance athletes.
Chris Ruddock studied Product Design Engineering at Loughborough University, where he attained a First Class degree with honours. During his final year at Loughborough he was selected for the university’s first ever entrepreneurship exchange programme with the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Whilst studying for his degree Ruddock sought out Dimitris Katsanis, founder and CEO of Metron Advanced Equipment, tracking him down online, and convincing him to give him a job. Until that point, Katsanis had worked alone as an integral part of UK Sport’s ethereal ‘Secret Squirrel club’ – a select team of technical experts led by Chris Boardman, credited for the step-change in British Olympic successes from 2000.
During the 18 months he worked with Katsanis, Chris developed high-level bicycle frame and component designs for UK Sport, British Cycling, Pinarello and Team SKY. He then went on to form INCUS Performance.
“INCUS is something that has actually been in mind since 2009 – way before the technology existed that could deliver what I was thinking about,” Chris explained.
