As the Covid-19 pandemic continues to cause havoc across the endurance event industry, The IRONMAN Group has confirmed a number of further event cancellations.
Sadly, the latest releases from IRONMAN indicate that the IRONMAN 70.3 SUPERFROG and SUPERSEAL triathlons in California will not be operated in either 2020 or 2021. In addition, IRONMAN 70.3 Victoria in British Columbia, Canada, has also been cancelled next year.
Other events have been postponed in 2020, with a scheduled return in 2021. These include: IRONMAN 70.3 Oceanside, IRONMAN 70.3 North Carolina, IRONMAN 70.3 Des Moines and IRONMAN 70.3 Memphis.
IRONMAN has issued the following statements regarding each event…
IRONMAN SUPERFROG triathlon and SUPERSEAL
Based on the continued mandate from the State of California in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic, the IRONMAN 70.3 SUPERFROG triathlon, originally scheduled for September 20 cannot take place in 2020.
We also regret to advise that after evaluating the future viability of the IRONMAN 70.3 SUPERFROG and SUPERSEAL triathlons, we have come to the conclusion that we cannot operate the events in 2021. IRONMAN officials will continue to evaluate the potential for both events to return at some point in the future.
In what has been a continually evolving and challenging time globally, we recognize that this will come as a disappointment for many and we share in those feelings. SUPERFROG holds an iconic place in our sports origins that started with its founder, Navy SEAL legend, Moki Martin. The teams involved in producing the events have poured everything they’ve had for decades making this an incredibly difficult decision.
All registered athletes for the 2020 IRONMAN SUPERFROG triathlon and SUPERSEAL triathlon will be receiving an email with further information.
We thank the city, all athletes, volunteers, and partners for their contributions to the events over the years.
IRONMAN 70.3 Victoria
After further discussion and internal evaluation regarding the future of IRONMAN 70.3 Victoria triathlon, we have come to conclusion that we cannot viably operate the event in 2021. IRONMAN officials are working to determine options for possible future events in the region. All athletes registered for the 2021 IRONMAN 70.3 Victoria triathlon will be receiving an email with further information.
IRONMAN 70.3 Oceanside
When we postponed the IRONMAN 70.3 Oceanside triathlon from its original date of April 4, 2020 to October 24, 2020, we felt confident we would still be able to deliver an exceptional event at the later date.
Unfortunately, based on the continued mandate from the State of California and in alignment with local authorities in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic, we regret to advise that the IRONMAN 70.3 Oceanside triathlon cannot take place in 2020 and will return on March 27, 2021.
IRONMAN 70.3 North Carolina
With the health and safety of our community being an utmost priority, and after further evaluation with local authorities in relation to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we regret to advise that the IRONMAN 70.3 North Carolina triathlon cannot take place in 2020 and will return on October 23, 2021.
IRONMAN 70.3 Des Moines
When we postponed the Certified Piedmontese IRONMAN 70.3 Des Moines triathlon from its original date of June 21, 2020 to October 4, 2020, we felt confident we would still be able to deliver an exceptional event at the later date.
Unfortunately, based on the updated mandate from the City of Des Moines and in alignment with local authorities in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic, we regret to advise that the inaugural Certified Piedmontese IRONMAN 70.3 Des Moines triathlon cannot take place in 2020 and will now debut on June 20, 2021.
IRONMAN 70.3 Memphis
With the health and safety of our community being an utmost priority, and after further evaluation with local authorities in relation to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we regret to advise that the inaugural St. Jude IRONMAN 70.3 Memphis triathlon cannot take place in 2020 and will now debut on October 2, 2021.
