Boyd Cycling has launched its second annual wheel trade-up program. For a new Boyd wheel purchase the company will receive trade-ins of ‘any wheelset of any brand and in any condition for the month of October.’
As the company notes in a release… ‘send Boyd Cycling your used wheels – Boyd covers the shipping – and get a sweet trade-in deal of 20% off on any carbon wheelset in any category: cyclocross, gravel, road or mountain.’
The company’s trade-in wheel program is for purchases of carbon wheelsets only. It notes that the pandemic, which has shaped much of the bicycle industry’s spring and summer sales numbers, has ‘increased the demand for Boyd Cycling wheels five-fold and the annual October trade-up arrived before inventory replenishment.’
There are savings for cyclists on both Boyd Cycling’s carbon fibre premium Podium Series wheels as well as its new Prologue Series wheels. The regularly priced US$1050 28 mm and 44 mm carbon Prologue Series road wheels – introduced two weeks ago – can now be had for just over US$800.
Last year, Boyd Cycling donated more than 50 sets of wheels to juniors through its trade-in program. Launched on October 1, the 2020 program has already received a number of requests including inquiries from neighbouring Canada and South America.
The Summit Freewheelers, a 33-year-old junior cycling program in Twinsburg, Ohio, were the recipients of 10 wheelsets last year.
The Freewheeler’s Race Director, Larry Smith, said, “Boyd has made an expensive sport obtainable with the wheel trade-in the program. My juniors get high quality used wheels that allow them to be competitive at local, regional and national events.
“The program in turn allows us to reallocate funding to other areas of need. This is a win-win program for juniors who receive high quality used wheels and an awesome discount for the person purchasing the best wheels on the market.”
Boyd Cycling owner and name-sake, Boyd Johnson said “The trade-in is open to wheels of any condition, but we really want to encourage people to trade in wheels that are in rideable condition.
“There are so many junior riders throughout the country who could use a set of wheels, even if those wheels are not the latest and greatest. We have contacts with development teams and shops throughout the country and are thrilled that, together with our customers and our dealers, we can all help aspiring cyclists.”
The October trade-in program expands on its standard trade-up program that was previously limited to Boyd Cycling wheels only. The new program invites riders to send in any wheelset in any condition – using a prepaid shipping label – for a fresh set of carbon wheels at 20% off.
All wheels will receive quality control; and if deemed in good condition with no cracks, dings or dents will be donated to a junior rider in need of equipment.
Wheels can be traded in directly through Boyd Cycling’s Greenville, SC, facility or through its dealer network.
