New appointments to Her Spirit Board of Directors

Coaching and wellbeing platform Her Spirit has this week confirmed the appointment of Ian Filby (Non-Exec Chairman of Joules and former CEO at DFS) and Chris Brindley MBE (former Managing Director at Metro Bank and current Chair of the Rugby League World Cup 2021) to its Board of Directors.

Her Spirit, founded by two female social entrepreneurs, Mel Berry and Holly Woodford, provides… ‘online support, encouragement, exercise plans, nutritional advice, mental health tools and expert coaching to help women from all backgrounds get healthier.’

Ian Filby, will chair the Her Spirit board and Chris Brindley will become the chair of the organisation’s advisory board.

Her Spirit’s mission is to create the first cost effective social prescribing solution for women’s physical, nutritional and mental health. The brand notes that, in an era where being fitter really can save your life, this has never been more important.

“Ian and Chris bring not only bring a passion for helping women from all communities become fitter, stronger and healthier – but they also have decades of consumer and retail expertise that will help us build an organisation that can change the lives of millions of women and their families,” said Her Spirit co-founder Mel Berry.

“I am thrilled to be joining the Her Spirit board of directors with Melanie, Holly and Chris,” said Ian Filby. “I have always believed in the importance of strong female role models. My mother was one of those to me; and I have often been frustrated as a father of two girls in terms of the provision for them compared to their male counterparts.

“I have been a staunch champion of gender parity and am excited to be part of the team at Her Spirit.”

Chris Brindley MBE said “Joining the board at Her Spirit and chairing the advisory board is a great honour. Far too often women are forgotten; and the need to champion women from black, Asian and ethnic minority communities and low social economic communities is vital. We need to put the health of women and girls at the centre of efforts to recover from COVID-19.”

Amidst Covid-19, Her Spirit has seen a surge in women looking for support, motivation and expertise to find more sustainable ways to get fitter and eat more healthily.

Holly Woodford – Co-Founder of Her Spirit said “We urgently need to unlock a ‘healthy living’ revolution. The nation and particularly women need to eat more healthily and move more – this involves helping everyone make a mental shift.

“Supporting women from all communities to help themselves and their families is the only cost-effective way to turn the tide on obesity and inactivity. The time to act is now and in response to this urgent need we have asked an incredible group of leaders from across media, business, sport, health to join the Her Spirit Board to lobby for and lead this revolution.”
