Olympic distance race simulation for IRONMAN VR13

Over 10,700 athletes registered to participate in the latest IRONMAN virtual race – IRONMAN VR13. The 5150 / Olympic distance race simulation saw over 5,900 finishers.

The IRONMAN VR13 Olympic distance simulation required athletes to complete a 3km run, 40km ride, and 10km run between Friday, June 26 and race close on Sunday, June 28 at 19:59 ET (23:59 GMT).

Competitors who raced in the, more popular, Classic Division could do so anywhere, indoors or outdoors. Here, athletes could complete the three segments in any order and were not required to do the segments consecutively.

The 1,450 finishers who competed in the fourth race in the IRONMAN Virtual Racing Championship Series were bound by a different set of rules over a four-week long regulated age-group competition. This is designed to reward top-performing athletes in a structured and competitive virtual environment.

Bringing the IRONMAN community together virtually, the event organiser notes that its IRONMAN Virtual Club has more than 107,000 members on the platform.

Leading into IRONMAN VR13, athletes could also take on challenges. These have been set by IRONMAN U Master Coaches Mark Allen, Matt Dixon, Lance Watson, and Dave Scott. Here, athletes are provided with training tips and workouts. Partner challenges from ROKA, HOKA ONE ONE, Ventum, Santini, and Compressport also provide a way for athletes to train, compete, earn, and connect with the opportunity to win prizes.

IRONMAN VR Pro Challenge
The 13th edition of the IRONMAN VR Pro Challenge saw New Zealand’s Teresa Adam and Mike Phillips claim top honours in the professional women’s and professional men’s races, respectively.

Three professional women and three professional men took to the virtual pavement – battling it out for IRONMAN VR13 Pro Challenge bragging rights. Athletes undertook an outdoor 3km run in a setting of their choice, before hopping on their trainers to tackle a 40km bike ride on a portion of the IRONMAN Lake Placid bike course utilizing ROUVY virtual cycling platform.

IRONMAN Virtual Racing by the numbers
There have now been over 140,000 finishes across all IRONMAN virtual races (VR1 to VR13).

From IRONMAN VR8 to VR9, athletes who wanted to compete in IRONMAN VR races with officially monitored times could sign up for the Challenger Division. Since VR10, this has now been renamed the Championship Series Division. Here, activities must be completed outdoors or on the ROUVY indoor cycling reality platform to log an official result (results as at time of writing):
