AAT Events has repositioned race day (14th June) for one of its most popular 10k runs in the UK – the Weybridge 10k. From one race day, it has shifted to offering up a month long ‘celebration of free virtual running throughout June.’
Established in 2016, the Weybridge 10k now attracts around 4000 runners to the rural Surrey town, in South East England. The local event teamed up with AAT in 2018 to help continue its growth.
The ‘real life’ event has been postponed until Sunday 6th December, making it the first ever Winter Weybridge 10k. As the June event was no longer able to take place, the event team wanted to transform their offering to something fully digital, using the latest entry platform tech from njuko, whilst keeping it free for runners of all abilities to take part.
Matt Trevett, who launched the Weybridge 10k in 2016 said “I love coming up with new concepts and approaches to support our runners, mostly for those that are new to the sport.
“Along with AAT Events we wanted to keep our virtual offering free and open it up to the global beginner market to let them know that by running virtually in June they are supporting our event in December. We also wanted to introduce our new digital social medals, something unique.”
The team hope that the free entry and racing incentive will enable those both new to running and seasoned runners to connect with the Weybridge 10k event.
‘This gives them something for their training efforts and encourages them to take part in the race in December, especially if it’s their first ever 10k.’
Runners interested in participating can sign-up online, choose a preferred distance, and run/walk the event – recording it on a platform such as Strava by the end of June.
Finishers receive:
- A personalised e-certificate – signed by the Race Director
- Personalised digital medal to share on social
- Access to ongoing sponsor offers and content through the njuko digital dashboard
- Exclusive Weybridge 10k memento badge if complete the virtual race and December event
