The Abbott World Marathon Majors (AbbottWMM) has presented a total of US$100,000 to organisations connected with this year’s TCS New York City Marathon.
AbbottWMM presented US$75,000 to the New York Road Runners (NYRR) to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the TCS New York City Marathon and the work undertaken in the community.
This money will be split between Run for the Future and Rising New York Road Runners, which also incorporates its Youth Wheelchair Training Program.
Receiving the donation on behalf of NYRR were CEO Kerin Hempel, Race Director Ted Metellus and Youth Ambassadors.
The second donation for US$25,000 was made to Marathon Kids, the chosen charity of Shalane Flanagan who, on Sunday completed six marathons in six weeks, including the five autumn/fall Abbott World Marathon Majors.
On hand to receive the donation was Flanagan along with the CEO of Marathon Kids – Cami Hawkins, colleague Nellie Acevedo and her son Jacob who is part of the program.
Presenting the donations on behalf of AbbottWMM were:
- Tim Hadzima, Executive Director of the Abbott World Marathon Majors;
- Chris Miller, DVP Global Brand Strategy and Innovation for Abbott;
- Ted Metellus, Race Director for NYRR; and
- Visiting Abbott World Marathon Majors Race Directors Hugh Brasher from London and Carey Pinkowski from Chicago.
