Giro d’Italia gets COVID-19 all-clear following latest team testing

Following extensive testing of pro riders and team staff members at the Giro d’Italia on May 17th, the event has received a COVID-19 all-clear. Now underway, and organised by RCS Sport, this year’s Corsa Rosa runs from May 8th-30th.

In accordance with the Giro d’Italia health protocol, established as part of the ‘Rules to be followed for the organisation and participation in road events in the context of the coronavirus pandemic’ drawn up by cycling’s worldwide governing body the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), and in compliance with the measures of the Italian Health Ministry, all teams (riders and staff) were tested (COVID-19 testing using PCR tests) on 17 May.

A total of 600 tests were carried out:

  • No riders have tested positive for Covid-19
  • No teams’ staff members have tested positive for Covid-19
