More than 500 sports events with over 500,000 athletes in Switzerland, Germany, Austria, and Italy will benefit from a collaboration in sports timing. MYLAPS Sports Timing, Datasport and Abavent have announced a ‘5+ years partnership… to offer best-in-class sports experiences to event organizers and their participants and fans.’
Datasport, based in Switzerland, and its German sister company Abavent have worked together for a number of years. This has included the provision of services for races such as Escalade, Jungfrau-Marathon, Engadin Skimarathon, Einstein Marathon, Ötztaler Radmarathon, HERO World series, and BDR-related events.
Datasport AG is a leading company for event time measurement in Switzerland with a tradition of over 35 years. Abavent is one of the leading timekeeping companies in Germany and has been offering extensive services for all aspects of endurance sporting events since 1998.
The two companies are involved in more than 500 sports events per year in the DACH region (Austria, Germany, and Switzerland) and abroad.
To create synergy between Datasport and Abavent, the companies are switching to a single timing equipment supplier for both active and passive technology. The companies will rely on the BibTag and ProChip Systems from MYLAPS… ‘ensuring they can hit the ground running, all on the same timing platform.’
Founded in 1982, MYLAPS is a developer of automatic sports timing. It develops technology that is used all over the world, from the Olympics through to the Boston Marathon and MotoGP to ‘countless local races’.
IRONMAN races in Germany
Part of this partnership is that Datasport and Abavent will be the IRONMAN timing partner of MYLAPS in Germany, starting with two races in 2021 with the option to expand the number of events in 2022.
Most IRONMAN races in Europe and all IRONMAN races in North and South America and Oceania are timed with the ProChip System, which has a claimed accuracy up to 0.003 seconds. The newly launched ProChip Smart Decoder is also billed as ‘the smallest and lightest timing decoder in the industry.’
Thomas Bachofner, CEO of Datasport AG said “Datasport has a long history of providing highest quality services to its event organizers. Accurate and reliable timing data are a crucial element of the race experience where we are not willing to make any compromises for our organizers and their participants and followers.
“The Covid-19 pandemic turned out to be an ideal moment to initiate a smooth transition to MYLAPS technology, guaranteeing highest quality equipment and support for the coming years.”
Camiel Slaats, CEO of MYLAPS, said “At MYLAPS we strive to offer the ultimate sports experience to athletes, followers and events. We are excited that Datasport and Abavent choose our technology to offer the best timing experience at their races in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Italy. We look forward to work together in the coming years.”
