Taking place on May 8-30, the Giro d’Italia will once again get on board with Toyota, which, through to 2022, will be the official partner car of the Corsa Rosa and all of the cycling classics organized by RCS Sport.
President of RCS MediaGroup, Urbano Cairo said “Yesterday, we presented the latest Giro d’Italia that is about to begin to all our partners. This year’s edition especially will be a world-class event and sporting showcase with 900 million spectators across 196 countries, on five continents.
“Toyota, an international brand, will be part of the Giro family for the third consecutive year; their hybrid and innovative cars will help us build an even more responsible and sustainable spectacle and highlight the beauty of Italy.”
Luigi Ksawery Lucà, CEO of Toyota Motor Italia, said “We are very pleased to renew the partnership with RCS MediaGroup. For more than a century, the Giro d’Italia has touched the most beautiful places in our country and is a symbolic event of Italian sport, part of the history of all of us.
“It is therefore a source of great pride to be able to make our fleet of cars equipped with the best electrified technology available, giving our contribution to make the Giro even more sustainable and respectful of our important environmental heritage.”
The race fleet will consist of 50 Toyota cars, comprised of 38 Rav4 Hybrids and 12 Corolla Touring Sports vehicles, all equipped with the latest evolution of Toyota’s Full Hybrid technology.
The RAV4 Hybrids and Corolla Hybrid Touring Sports will accompany the riders in the race. At this year’s Giro, Toyota will participate with a range full of new additions. In a national preview, the group will unveil the newcomer in the ‘Yaris family’, the Toyota Yaris Cross, an innovative compact SUV equipped with the most advanced Toyota Hybrid technology.
There is a national premiere also for the second-generation Mirai, a car that embodies the ‘Beyond Zero’ vision of the Toyota Group.
‘It is an electrically powered car, in which electricity is generated in the car thanks to the electrochemical reaction of hydrogen with the oxygen present in the air. The result is a car that goes beyond zero emissions, in addition to having water vapor as the only exhaust product, it also has a filter that is able to clean the air while driving.’
Together with Mirai, the New Yaris Hybrid and the New RAV4 Plug-In Hybrid will be the protagonists of the ‘Beyond Zero Challenge’: a challenge on sustainability issues that will involve Toyota ambassadors on several stages of the Giro d’Italia.
