Aerodynamics specialist Body Rocket is entering into a multi-year aero tech partnership with world champion triathletes Kristian Blummenfelt and Gustav Iden, and their coach, Olav Aleksander Bu.
The UK-based tech start-up notes that it is… ‘creating the world’s first direct-force aerodynamic drag force measurement system for cyclists and triathletes.’
The Norwegian trio, of two athletes and their coach, is noted for a meticulous science-based approach that has produced some stand-out, world-class performances.
The partnership will be made through a new science and technology company the Norwegian trio has founded, along with their long-time manager Adam Acworth. The company will be launched ahead of the IRONMAN World Championships in Kona, in October.
Kristian Blummenfelt won triathlon gold at the Tokyo Olympics, became IRONMAN World Champion in Saint George, Utah, in May, 2022; and, in June, broke the seven hours iron distance at the Pho3nix Sub-7 Sub-8 event.
Gustav Iden is a two-time winner of the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship, in 2019 and 2021.
Blummenfelt and Iden will use Body Rocket technology in training to gain data insights about their on-bike aerodynamics, and will be on board as Body Rocket-sponsored performance athletes.
With access to real-time drag force measurement and a host of other nuanced data produced by Body Rocket’s sensitive sensor technology, the Norwegians will use the Body Rocket on-bike system to prepare for the 2022 IRONMAN World Championships in Kona, this October.
Olav Aleksander Bu, Norwegian performance coach, said “This is an exciting development for us. Typically, we look at every detail that can affect performance, and aerodynamics is one area where gains can almost always be made.
“We’re interested to see how real-time CdA [coefficient of aerodynamic drag] and other insights about body position can help us achieve world-best performances.”
Eric DeGolier, Founder of Body Rocket, said “It certainly doesn’t get more exciting than working with two world champions.
“We’re looking forward to actively helping Kristian and Gustav refine their aerodynamics in their build-up towards Kona, working closely to gather and analyse data that can provide them with every advantage possible while riding their bikes.”
Kristian Blummenfelt added “I am super excited to be partnering with Body Rocket. I have confidence in my performance at Kona later this year but it’s important to always stay on the cutting edge of technology.
“Having this next-level data about aerodynamics, in real- time, will help to identify improvements we can’t currently evaluate.”
