British Cycling has announced the dates and venues for its 2023 National Road Series and National Circuit Series.
Contested over four rounds for men and five rounds for women, the National Road Series kicks off at the ANEXO/CAMS 7th Women’s CiCLE Classic in the East Midlands, Previous winners include Josie Nelson, Abi Smith, Neah Evans and Katie Archibald.
The series then returns to Lincoln for the Rapha Lincoln Grand Prix, for the opening round of the men’s series and second round of the women’s. The 2023 edition will see a new organiser take over the reins of the race, following the departures of Dan Ellmore and Peter Odam, who have been integral to the running of the race over recent years and bringing the national championships to the city in 2015 and 2021.
Riders will then take to the start line for the Lancaster Grand Prix on Sunday 16 July, before the Ryedale Grasscrete Grand Prix in Yorkshire on Sunday 20 August. Series champions will then be crowned in the North East on Sunday 17 September, with the Beaumont Trophy for men and Curlew Cup for women.
British Cycling adds that it is actively working to secure an additional round for the men’s National Road Series and will share further updates in due course. Unfortunately, the Manx International Stage Race on the Isle of Man will not take place in 2023 due to roadworks taking place on the island, but the national governing body looks forward to welcoming the race back to the calendar in 2024.
The National Circuit Series for men and women will begin in Otley (Wednesday 28 June), before returning to Ilkley on Friday 30 June following a series debut this year.
The Sheffield Grand Prix will make a return to the 2023 men’s calendar and will also host a women’s race for the first time in round four, before the men’s series will head to Colne on Tuesday 25 July. Both the men’s and women’s series champions will then be crowned in Newark on Friday 28 July.
As has been the case since 2017, equal prize money will be on offer in both the men’s and women’s road and circuit series, and further details on the location of the 2023 national championships for road, time-trial and circuit – which will take place from 22-25 June – will be published in due course.
